Announcing P.E.O.'s Sixth Project:
The STAR Scholarship
What if P.E.O. could reach a group of women not directly addressed by any other philanthropic project? What if P.E.O. could have a prominent presence in your community?
Those were the challenges facing the committee to develop a sixth philanthropy for the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Through the 2007 membership survey, you gave us the thought-provoking data and impetus to guide us in identifying a group of women not previously eligible as recipients of our other philanthropies.
The STAR Scholarship, our newest project, will provide a one-time $2,500 award to high school senior women who wish to pursue post-secondary education. Successful candidates, with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, will exhibit excellence in academics, leadership, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success. Financial need may be considered but is not required.
Beginning this fall as a pilot project, limited awards will be made for the 2009-10 academic year. You will learn more about this exciting opportunity in upcoming issues of The P.E.O. Record and from your state officers following their LEAD conference in July. Imagine, together we can reach out to these young women as we launch STARs!
